If you’ve already read my articles in which I review the best road bikes under $1000 and the best affordable mountain bikes, you will have noticed that Diamondback bicycles are always part of my lists. Well, there is a good reason for that.
Diamondback is a very different company, and they do sell all their models online, which is a unique approach.
Are Diamondback Bikes Any Good?
Diamondback has a reputation for a brand that builds some of the most durable, high-quality, and at the same time, cheap enough hybrid, road, and mountain bikes. The company started as a BMX bike manufacturer ( check HERE the best BMX bikes ), but nowadays, they produce almost all bike types, which I know.
Another different approach taken by Diamondback is on the pricing of their products. The cyclists very often view them as an entry-level bike manufacturer, and many bikers know that a Diamondback bicycle is always the right choice for beginners.
Diamondback sells their bikes much cheaper than your local bike shop because they market online, and this is much cheaper than having an offline shop or chain of distribution, etc.
The truth is that Diamondback is not precisely an entry-level bike manufacturer because they sell not only cheap bikes but also some $5000+ high-quality Superleggera road bikes for semi-pro cyclists, so they do know things about cycling.
Of course, one of the most significant issues of buying a bicycle online is the sizing, but don’t panic. We do have some tables, and you could easily find which is your correct bike size. One of the most important benefits of buying a Diamondback bike online is the use of high-quality components.
The brand is known for that, and even the entry-level bikes are equipped with decent, durable components made by Shimano and SRAM. As we know, today, a bike manufacturer makes only the frame, and third-party companies like Shimano make all other parts.
Another thing that I love about Diamondback is its excellent warranty system, which is implemented. If you don’t want to waste time reading it, I can confirm to you that it is a lifetime warranty on the frame.
Also, full-suspension mountain bikes get a 5-year warranty on the frame. If you have some other issues, they usually will be handled by your local bike shop. They fix the problem and send the bill to Diamondback, which is nice. But the good news, in general, is that Diamondback bikes are durable and most likely you will never use the warranty.
The Best Diamondback Entry-Level Mountain Bike
Diamondback Overdrive 29er Hardtail Mountain Bike is one of our favorite mountain bikes on the market, and there is a good reason for that. It is a good, reliable and cheap bike which will serve you very well for many years. The Overdrive reviewed here is the typical Diamondback mountain bike. They go very often with a hardtail frame, which is a sound decision.
The hardtail frame used here is one of the best I have ever seen. It is made of 6061-T6 aluminum and it is lightweight, durable and very very reliable.
The overdrive 29er could be the best choice for anyone who wants to ride casually on the mountain or paved roads. This bike could be easily used as a first bike, even for cycling to college or for carrying groceries. Here you can find the dedicated individual review of the Diamondback Overdrive 29er.
The Best Full Suspension Diamondback Mountain Bike
Diamondback Catch 2 is our pick for the best mountain bike produced by Diamondback because of many factors. It’s a full suspension high-quality mid-upper class mountain bike for everyone who wants to spend at least $2000.
This bike is fitted with excellent and high-quality components which are especially true for the suspension, frame, and brakes.
The suspension is good because the bike comes with Diamondback’s functional level link suspension platform and front fork produced by Fox Float. Both front and rear suspension are with 13mm travel, which is perfect for the rocky paths in the mountain.
The tires which are used here are not the standard cheap and rubbish mountain bike tires. Diamondback decided to fit the bike with the Kenda Havok 27.5×2.8″ tires on Blanchard rims.
This makes the ride very smooth and comfortable for every rider no matter if it’s a heavy one or not. Another great thing about the Diamondback Catch 2, which I like a lot, is the aluminum frame. The geometry of the tube and the overall design are just great.
In general, Diamondback Catch 2 is a great allrounder mountain bike which gives the rider a unique feel and emotions. If you are really into the mountain bike world, this bike is one of my personal best recommendations for you.
The Best Diamondback Road Bike
As Diamondback puts it very simply – Century 2 is at home on the road. It’s a road bike designed to be ridden by bike enthusiasts who love road cycling. The geometry of the frame is very aggressive, and with it’s a slightly taller head tube, it’s made to help the rider maintain a more upright position.
This gives the rider more comfort during the ride compared to the standard race bike. All components used here are very good and of high-quality materials. It uses Shimano Ultegra cranks, front and rear dérailleurs, Shimano 105 cogset which are all very good components and you can feel that when you ride the bike.
It’s really a pleasure to shift gears on the Diamondback Century 2 because of all these high-quality components. Diamondback Century 2 is great when we speak about stopping power. The road bike is suited with Shimano flat mount hydraulic disc brakes.
The rotors are 160mm front / 140mm which gives a really comfortable and safe feeling to the rider. They are very reliable and the Century 2 stops very well in any conditions. The tires are Michelin Dynamic Sport, 700x28c which are really good.
As we already know the tires are a very important component that gives the ride comfort and smoothness.
With the Michelin Dynamic Sport, you will not have any issues at all. In conclusion, I have to admit that Diamondback Century 2 is one of the best road bikes I have ever seen.
It looks good, rides exceptionally well, and the overall impression is very positive. I don’t know for any downsides of this bike except probably the price. Usually, Century 2 is priced between $1600 and $2500, but very often you could find excellent deals on Amazon. I would recommend the Diamondback Century 2 if you are looking for a good road bike that you will often ride and for many miles.
In this price range, you won’t find many alternatives, and that’s why we love Diamondback so much.
The Best Diamondback Entry-Level Road Bike
Diamondback Century Sport has crowned the best entry-level road bike on this list because it’s a perfect combination of relatively low price and still high-quality and reliable components which are put together flawlessly by Diamondback.
The aluminum frame is as reasonable as any Diamondback road bike, and the overall design of the bike in this beautiful blue color is outstanding. This bike weighs only 22 pounds which is great for this price range.
The bike is very fast and as you can see in the many Amazon reviews it gets very positive feedback from the real buyers and riders. Another cool feature of the Diamondback Century is that the shifters are integrated which is not very common for the cheapest bikes. You get the Shimano Claris integrated shifters which are good and reliable.
The tires are Kenda K196 700x26c tires which are OK for beginners and having in mind that this is an entry-level road bike I have to say that they are pretty good and deliver nice and smooth ride overall. Of course, you can always upgrade the tires at a later stage if you want even better performance.
Diamondback Century Sports Road Bike is a perfect fit for everyone who wants to enter into the road cycling world without spending too much for a first bike. You can ride easily all day long with this bike making many many miles.
If your budget is low and you are looking for a road bike under $500 probably you won’t find many good alternatives to the Diamondback Century Sports Bike.
The Best Diamondback Hybrid Bike
Diamondback Insight 2 is one of my favorite hybrid bikes for 2018. It’s relatively cheap ( normally around $350-500 ) and it delivers outstanding performance.
It’s perfect for commuters and for everyone who wants to do some fitness on a bike. I will not get much into it because we have a review of this bike in the article – Best Cheap Hybrid Bikes. If you are interested in this bike please read that article. I will only mention that Diamondback Insight 2 got a 9.1/10 in the Yes Cycling rating system.
The Best Diamondback Fat Bike
I was asked so many times to make a list of the best fat bikes on the market and now this is the first mention of such a fat bike on Yes Cycling. I will admit that I was very skeptical about this strange trend in the cycling world but recently I tried the Diamondback El Oso De Acero and I was really impressed.
First, let’s start with that cool name – El Oso De Acero. It translates to The Bear of Steel, how cool is that huh? The second thing you will probably notice is the look of this beast. It looks amazing! Diamondback El Oso De Acero is really a sleek looking fat bike which is perfect for everyone who wants to experiment a little bit.
Originally fat bikes were made for snow and mud but today they are used even in the cities and this is because they look cool. This bike is equipped with Shimano components which are rigid and reliable. The frame and the fork are made of solid steel they are rigid.
The 3×8 Shimano Alivio drivetrain offers a multitude of gearing options for all kind of terrains. Diamondback El Oso De Acero is fitted with massive 26 x 4 in. fat bike tires which float over sand, snow or crazy-loose trail.
Of course, the stopping power of this beast is solid. Fitted with mechanical disk brakes you won’t have any issues stopping in snow, mud or on paved roads. In conclusion, I will say that fat bikes are a nice invention which gives a different perspective to cycling. Unfortunately, the bike is not very cheap and it sells for around $800.
Let’s make some vs. comparisons for the mountain bike brands for example.
Diamondback Mountain Bikes Vs Giant Mountain Bikes
My readers are asking me very often which mountain bikes are better Diamondback mountain bikes or Haro mountain bikes. Well, both brands are outstanding, and choosing between the two is tough.
When we talk about the price range of $300 – $500 probably I would put them on the same level. But if your budget is $500+ then probably Diamondback mountain bikes are better because they are more value for money than the Giant ones.
Diamondback Mountain Bikes Vs Haro Mountain Bikes
Haro mountain bikes are a little bit more high-quality in terms of components, but the difference is not very noticeable. I would say that Diamondback is catching up on all other brands, including Haro mountain bikes.
Haro is also making some excellent mountain bikes which are relatively cheap and very reliable. So between a Diamondback mountain bike and a Haro mountain bike, I would choose the one which is better suited to my needs.
Diamondback Mountain Bikes Vs GT Mountain Bikes
Six or seven years ago, I would choose the GT Mountain bikes, but as I already mentioned before, Diamondback improved virtually every aspect of their bikes.
They’ve got so much better with the years that today I would say that Diamondback mountain bikes are better than the GT one. 1:0 for Diamondback here.
Diamondback Mountain Bikes Vs Mongoose Mountain Bikes
Mongoose mountain bikes are in a different league than the ones made by Diamondback. They are, of course, much more expensive and use only high-quality components.
But in the entry-level models, Diamondback wins because of their prices. But overall Mongoose mountain bikes are much better than Diamondback.
In my reviews below, I will show you my favorite Diamondback bicycles. There will be some hybrid bicycles, fat bikes, road bikes and of course some of their best mountain bike models out there.
Last Words On Diamondback Bikes Reviews
I do recommend going to your local bike shop for the final tweaks after the assembly of your new Diamondback bike purchased on Amazon. These bikes come mostly assembled, but there are some really small tweaks that have to be done. For around $50 you will get your bike perfectly assembled and with all details in place.
They will also measure your height and will make these final tweaks for you. I see a lot of complaints online about Diamondback and all of them are related to the poor assembly of the brakes or other details. If you don’t know what you are doing please go to your local bike shop and invest those $50 for this very important thing.
I hope that with these Diamondback Bikes Reviews you would find the best Diamondback bike for your needs.
