Best Bike Multi-Tools You Can Buy in 2019

tools on a wall

If you ride your bike often you should probably already know that something can break down while you ride without any notice. And when that happens you are going to need a good and reliable tool that allows you to make basic adjustments. Because one of the worst things that could happen is walking home when your bike breaks down and you don’t have the tools.

Of course, you can’t bring with you all the tools which you could ever need in their full sizes – that would be ridiculous. That’s why we have the so-called multi-tool. In general, with a good multi-tool, you are ready to fix almost anything that goes wrong with your bike. Thank you very much, the creator of the multi-tool!

But is it really important to have a multi-tool with you when you are out cycling?

The main benefit of carrying a good and reliable multi-tool is that you can fix almost anything that goes wrong with your bike. These multi-tools may include star-shaped Torx drivers, standard flat screwdriver, some hex wrenches, etc. Maintaining your bike in shape will not only save you money but it also can be very rewarding for you personally.

Sometimes minor things go wrong on a ride even when you are many miles away from home. And the only way to fix any kind of issue when you are away from home is having the multi-tool in hand. These tools are little wonders – they are super small, inexpensive and fit in your pocket. Cycling to work, doing your daily commute to college or cycling long-distance on the weekends you always need a good multi-tool to help you with the complicated situations.

How to choose the best multi-tool?

Unfortunately, there are many multi-tools on the market which are completely useless. They are made of very low-quality materials or they lack an important feature. Many of them would break apart on your first use as well. That’s why we decided to test and review the best bike multi-tools we could find in the market. So the multi-tools you see here are all tested and aproved by us.

What to consider when choosing a bike multi-tool?

Durability: This is by far the most important aspect of a bike multi-tool. Some of the cheap models will just come apart and you will have to buy a new one. That’s why in our selection of multi-tools, all of them are high-quality and durable enough. I would like to buy a tool which will serve me, and my bike for many years.

Functions: Functions of a bike multi-tool is the second most important aspect. The crucial thing here is to determine what kind of bike you have and what kind of cyclist are you. In general, any bike multi-tool should have hex keys ( sometimes called Allen wrenches ). It should have also at least a good screwdriver and maybe a Torx. If you ride a mountain bike with disk brakes maybe you will need some additional tools too. So in general you should take in consideration your needs before deciding which one is good for you.

WOTOW 16 in 1 Multi-Function Bike Bicycle Cycling Mechanic Repair Tool Kit With 3 pcs Tire Pry Bars Rods

WOTOW 16 in 1 Multi-Function Bike Bicycle Cycling Mechanic Repair Tool Kit With 3 pcs Tire Pry Bars Rods

This is the best selling bike multi-tool on Amazon which always an important factor. It can help you fix almost all the problems you could have with your bike.

It’s made of high-quality materials and it’s very durable in my opinion. The WOTOW features 16 functions all in one tool including socket hex wrench 8/9/10mm, screwdriver, Philips screwdriver, socket extension rod, solid wrench 8/10/15mm, HEX key wrench 2/2.5/3/4/5/6mm, spoke wrench, and 3 pieces tire levers. In my opinion, this is one of the best bike multi-tools on the market.

I really enjoy using the WOTOW bike multi-tool because it features so many tools on it. It’s a cheap and reliable tool that you can use for many years without any issues. The only thing that I don’t like is the design which makes the WOTOW multi-tool a little bit bulky.

But if you are ready to sacrifice bulkiness for functions and features then the WOTOW multi-tool would be one of the best bike multi-tools. Not to mention that this multi-tool is super cheap, and it won’t break your jar bank.

PROS:

  • 16 functions for almost anything you could ever need;
  • including even tire levers;
  • cheap enough;

CONS;

  • a little bit too bulky;
  • medium to low quality/strength;

SIGTUNA Bike Multi-Tool

SIGTUNA Bike Multi-Tool

Another great option for a bike multi-tool. Sigtuna Gear made this very high-quality and durable product which will serve you well for years. It features so many tools ( 19 functions ) that I won’t mention all of them. I have a very good set of compact screwdrivers, Allen keys, and chain and spoke tools.

It includes almost anything you could need in a bike multi-tool and at the same time it’s quite compact and lightweight enough ( 0.65 pounds ), but some bikers complain it’s heavy. It has even more functions than the first one we reviewed above so that’s normal.

Sigtuna’s multi-tool makes exactly the same compromises as the WOTOW one. It’s bulky and heavy but full of useful features. So think well before choose between the functions and lightweight of the multi-tool. If you are a roadie you should probably look for something more lightweight.

PROS:

  • 19 great functions for almost anything that could happen on the road;
  • including tire levers;
  • chain rivet extractor;

CONS:

  • a little bit too bulky ( 1.57 x 1.77 x 4.09 inches );
  • some users complain it’s heavy ( 0.65 pounds ),

Crank Brothers Multi Bicycle Tool (17-Function)

Crank Brothers Multi Bicycle Tool (17-Function)

This is the best looking bike multi-tool in our selection. Of course, the look is not important in a bike multi-tool but anyways I had to admit it. It’s available in three color options including pink/black, black/silver, and my favorite one gold. Crank Brothers’ multi-tool features 17 functions and it comes with a seven hex wrench sizes.

Disk brake rotor-friendly Torx  T-25 wrench is also included which makes this tool perfect for mountain bikes. It also features a good universal chain tool. The usuals are also present here. This tool is one of the smallest and lightest in the market. As we already mentioned this tool is made with mountain bikers in mind but it could be good for road bikers too. Definitely, one of my favourite options in this list.

PROS:

  • 17 functions including disk brake rotor-friendly Torx T25 wrench;
  • Very good looking in gold;
  • Extremely light ( 5.92 ounces );
  • Small in size ( 2 x 3 x 6 in );

Topeak is a very good company when we talk about bike accessories and this multi-tool is a nice example of their good products. Topeak Hexus 2 is one of the best bike multi-tools which sell on Amazon because it’s used by both professional and amateur cyclists. I can say that this is one of the best bike multi-tools in terms of feel in the hand and usage. Also includes a removable wrench to adjust pivot tension on the tool which is not very common.
