GMC Denali Road Bike Review – The Disappointment!
Have you ever wondered what is this strange brand GMC? Well, it is a brand part of the Kent International which is an American company engaged in the import and distribution of bicycles and bicycle accessories. GMC Denali is known for its extremely low prices in the United States. Normally the price of this model is below $250 which is nice if you are on tight budget and you want to ride a road bike.
For such low price normally you will get very low-quality components, heavy frame, and bad assembly. And unfortunately, this is exactly what you will get with the GMC Denali Road Bike. The bike is really on the heavy side with its 29 lbs. If you need to carry your bike upstairs or you have to get on and off a bus you will definitely notice the extra weight. But you will especially feel the weight on the big hills when you will suffer the most.
But let’s move one, maybe you are OK with the weight because you have a small budget and this is not so important to you. How about the quality of the different components used here?
Well most of them are medium quality. The brakes are really a good example of the medium to low-quality components used here. In my opinion, the brakes should always be good and well adjusted.
In this case, they are difficult to adjust and the materials used are not good. You will need to visit a bike shop to adjust them nicely. Most probably you will have to upgrade them soon and this is not a cheap thing to do.
What about the shifters? They are the cheapest Revo shifters by Shimano which are very uncomfortable to use and normally you will need to replace them in a few years. I really hate these shifters but they are cheap and they are used in many cheap bikes. Some riders like them and don’t complain so my advice is to check them in the nearest bike shop before making your buying decision.
The wheels are also not very good. They are only single-walled and this is the reason why they bend. A lot! This is a major disadvantage of the GMC Denali Road Bike and probably you will have to upgrade the wheels too. Especially if you are a heavy rider this should be the first thing to do when you buy the road bike.
One of the best things about the GMC Denali Road BIke is that it is available in 4 frame sizes which are actually not very common for the cheapest bikes on the market. Many of the manufacturers offer only one size which is a shame.
The smallest size which is extra small seems discontinued but the other 3 sizes are still available: Small – 5’4″ to 5’9″, Medium – 5’10” to 6’1, and Large – 6’0″ to 6’4″. You can find really the best size for you which is very nice.
If you have a really low budget and you are looking for cheap transportation maybe the GMC Denali Road Bike is good for you. But you can find many better road bikes for a similar price.
You can, of course, buy the Denali and upgrade a few components but this won’t be any cheap. For that additional cost, you would find a better high-quality road bike. Especially if you are heavy rider the GMC Denali shouldn’t be your first choice. You will be more than disappointed with this bike.
Despite all these disadvantages, the bike looks good and it’s really cheap. If you decide to buy this bike I really encourage you to visit your local bike shop and adjust the brakes and the shifters. If everything is adjusted well maybe you could like the road bikes as many of the Amazon buyers out there.Purchase GMC Denali Road Bike on Amazon
